Audio Physic
Loudspeakers
Founded over twenty years ago, German
manufacturer Audio Physic is known for their unique and innovative
designs and incredible performance. Add to that the elegant
design, immaculate
construction and impeccable finish quality obvious on all
Audio Physic models, and you've got a
speaker that is a feast for both the eyes and ears.
Build quality is outstanding,
due in part to each high end Reference Line model is
entirely built by a single technician. A pair of Avantera
speakers require over eight hours to construct, starting
with empty enclosures.
The
Company's philosophy has become their motto: "No loss of
fine detail". That is indeed an accurate of Audio Physic speakers. They capture
nuance and subtlety, but never cross over the line and become
analytical. They accomplish this task with careful design and
selection of every component. From cabinet design to
fabrication to drivers and crossovers, every element is
carefully researched.
Quality is evident from the moment
you lay eyes on the beautiful cabinet work. Touch the
surface and you'll feel the satin-smooth finish of the
carefully finished hardwood. Their attention to detail is
remarkable.
There are a handful of contenders on
my shortlist of the very best imaging speakers available,
and Audio Physic is close to the top. When
properly set up, these speakers simply cease to exist. They
leave behind an almost holographic sound field that gives
one the sense of being able to step into the original venue.
The sound is not just dimensional, it borders on enveloping. Quite addictive!
The Audio Physic range is broad, with
offerings from $1250 to $69995, there is a model to fit most
every budget.
Bottom line, these are incredible
loudspeakers and ones you do not want to miss.
Sitara 25
Don't let the diminutive stature fool you, the svelte Audio
Physic Sitara performs far beyond it's modest dimensions. The
soundstage is positively
huge, offering the holographic presentation that has made
Audio Physic elite among speakers. The beautiful and graceful
cabinet design has purpose - the sidewalls are non parallel,
dramatically reducing internal standing waves.
Top quality drivers and crossover components compliment the
outstanding construction quality and fastidious German
attention to detail.
Reviews:
“... the Sitara 25 is exactly what Audio Physic wants it to be:
It provides the highly precise, extremely open and positively
joyful sound of the high-end range of loudspeakers in a manner
that is suitable for problematic living rooms and therefore
enables fans with a limited amount of space to live out their
dreams of great Audio-Physic sound.” –

Hyper-Holographic Midrange Driver
- an awesome midrange driver and exclusive
design by Audio Physic!
It has been commonplace for many years to manufacture driver
baskets consisting either of plastic or metal. However there
is a well-known German proverb saying that double stitching
lasts longer.

We took this to heart, doubled our efforts and designed
the hyper-holographic cone midrange driver, HHCM in short, a
novel basket construction using a combination of aluminum and
plastic. Aluminum is stiff and conducts heat better than
plastic material which, in turn, allows for a much higher
internal damping. Both characteristics are important in
loudspeaker manufacturing. Provided that the two materials are
efficiently combined, their properties complement each other
in such a way that damping of resonances is perfectly coupled
with mechanical and thermal stability.
The two materials are used where they do their best in
what they are best at doing. Moving parts such as the
diaphragm, the surround, the centering device and the voice
coil are held in proper alignment by a plastic inside basket
designed to achieve a maximum degree of damping inside (marked
in red in the illustration). The powerful neodymium magnet is
encased in an outside basket made of die-cast aluminum.
Let us look at the advantages: the generated heat is
efficiently dissipated by extensive cooling fins whereas
remaining vibrations are transmitted to the mounting ring via
slim stiff bridges.
Such a double-basket construction makes a lot of sense.
Basket and cabinet resonances are effectively kept away from
the driver diaphragm while at the same time the thermal
behavior of the midrange driver significantly improves.
Special attention is also given to the aluminum
diaphragm itself which takes full advantage of Active Cone
Damping II implemented to avoid ringing resonances frequently
associated with stiff diaphragms. A U-shaped elastic ring is
designed to fit snugly around the rim of the cone, causing the
diaphragm to tighten. Therefore, resonances having an adverse
effect on the sound quality can be prevented right from the
start.
All these measures have only one goal in mind: to achieve
a perfect marriage of ultimate resolution performance and
absolute freedom from coloration.
In addition to achieving outstanding measurement
results, the HHCM truly lives up to its name, reaching a
superior subjective level of reproduction quality.
Never before has music been reproduced with such
holographic quality!

Tempo 25
Over the years, the TEMPO has turned into a classic in its own
right, achieving international acclaim among the more
affordable high-end
loudspeakers. At the same time, it has become the very
embodiment of all the great sound virtues that Audio Physic
stands for. And that was all the reason we needed to further
improve this loudspeaker to celebrate Audio Physic’s 25th
anniversary. The result, a limited special edition named TEMPO
25, is loaded with a HHCM midrange driver and a HHCT II
tweeter, both at the pinnacle of driver technology. It is the
first time that a loudspeaker in this price range is equipped
with these drivers, borrowed from the CARDEAS flagship,
featuring an elegant sleek cabinet and capable of delivering a
pure, powerful and precise sound in small and large rooms.
The beautiful and graceful cabinet design has purpose. The
sidewalls are non parallel, dramatically reducing internal
standing waves. Internally the extensive bracing insures
incredible rigidity further reduce vibration and resonance.
The dual woofers in the three-way design are arranged in a
unique "push-push" configuration offers outstanding bass
response in an elegantly narrow cabinet.
Reviews:
“Audio Physic has always been driven by the aim of offering
special products, standing out from the mainstream and further
developing the loudspeaker domain. The company, which is based
in Brilon, Germany, has triggered the discussion concerning
time-correct sound reproduction like never before, with the
exception of Jim Thiel, and can now boast a history that spans
25 years and contains a number of highlights. The company
history has also seen some bizarre and extreme products, but
has never failed to create innovative loudspeakers that
produce sounds based on an audible philosophy, giving them a
distinct profile.
“The most important Birthday feature included in the special
edition Tempo is the new cone tweeter with an intricate double
basket. This enhancement cannot be seen, but certainly draws
attention to itself with the sound it produces. “

Scorpio 25
Introduced in 2005, the Scorpio sets a new standard for
loudspeakers in this price range. Competing with far more
expensive products, the Scorpio offers
tremendous value for the price. It’s all here, the
unbelievable soundstage, refinement, natural timbre and tight
and tuneful bottom end.
Four seven-inch high performance side firing woofers produce
powerful bass without overhang or boom.
Reviews:
“… Audio Physic’s Scorpio 25 is an excellent loudspeaker. All
of its details represent technical perfection and completely
fulfill their intended purpose, with no frills. The
loudspeaker looks great and is elegant, slim and ideal for all
sorts of living rooms. It produces an excellent compact,
extremely harmonious and energetically balanced sound
displaying maximum precision in all frequency ranges. On top of
all this, the Scorpio 25 also successfully manages the
balancing act of not sounding technically cool but instead
unbelievably relaxed, dynamic and emotional.” – Christian

Avantera
A remarkable loudspeaker, the Avantera excels in all areas of
reproduction. We’ll let the reviews speak for themselves…
Reviews:
“I
have spent many hours listening to some of the
most highly regarded
box enclosure speakers such as Wilson Audio Maxx III, Magico
Q-3, YG Acoustic Anat II, Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series Diamond,
and Vienna Acoustics "The Music." Each one of these reference
level transducers can give you the illusion, if the upstream
gear is up to the task and the room acoustics are right, of
live music being played in front of you by real players in the
room. I believe now that another speaker, the Audio Physic
Avantera at $27,000.00 a pair, has joined the ranks of these
reference level music makers after a lengthy and intense
auditioning process.
“With the Avantera, Audio Physic has joined the ranks
of some of the most highly regarded speaker manufacturers on
the current high-end market. If you are the type of music
listener that wants your speaker to give a pure path back to
the source material, you will love the Avanteras.
“I want to be very clear that the Avantera is not an
analytical, ruthlessly over-detailed, cold or edgy speaker in
its voicing. It's very precise and totally honest to the
signal driving it with natural timbres and harmonics.
Therefore, the upstream gear better be up to the task of
providing quality information to this world-class speaker.
Though I always stress that there is no "best" in high-end
audio. Keeping in mind that my opinion is based on my personal
taste and system synergy with that particular piece of
equipment, I think that the Avantera is one of the best box
enclosure speakers that I have ever heard at this lofty price
level and urge you to put it on your audition list before you
make your decision to purchase your next pair of speakers in
this price range. Highly recommended.”
– Terry London, HT Review
“It
should be obvious that the Audio Physic Avanteras easily earn
my highest recommendation for all three types of listene rs—“absolute
sound,” “fidelity to mastertapes,” and “as you like it.”
Beautifully engineered, beautifully built, and beautiful to
hear, they offer a startling amount of the transparency and
lifelike realism of the very best dynamic speakers I’ve
heard—and are arguably better blended than several of those
paragons. Though not quite as ultra-finely detailed in the
midband as something like a Q5 (nor as deep-reaching,
well-defined, and explosively dynamic in the very low bass—at
least in my room), they come so close to this ideal for so
much less money that I find them downright irresistible. I
think a good many of you will, too. To get this kind of
natural timbral warmth, weight, power, resolution, extension,
and top-to-bottom seamlessness in such a small, stylish
package is rare, indeed. It just goes to show (yet again) what
a world-class engineer with great ears, such as AP’s Manfred
Diestertich, can accomplish.” –
Jonathan Valin, The Absolute Sound
“
…clearly a candidate for best sound of the show.” - Stereophile
“Audio
Physic’s Avantera is a living-room friendly, superbly
fabricated and wonderfully performing loudspeaker. Essentially
free of colorations in the mids and highs without gratuitous
powder sugar on top, there is a mild emphasis in the upper
bass/lower midrange which in the sparsely furnished midsize to
larger spaces that its industrial design aims for should be
spot on. This voicing is too subtle to impose a personality.
It simply injects an iota of saturation which this price class
expects. Audio Physic knows very well just who they designed
this speaker for. Special virtues are exemplary linearity and
freedom from coloration from the midrange up; an utter absence
of disturbing resonances in the vocal range and treble as is
rarely achieved; and soundstage width and depth that’s never
limited by the speakers themselves but only by the program
material. Relative to the Virgo 25, the Avantera is the more
relaxed, authoritative and—given its grander surface area—also
more resourceful easeful performer even though both share much
common ground.”

-
Superbly crafted slim tower in décor-friendly dimensions.
The drivers are carefully calibrated in-house designs and
the entire project exudes extreme care during development.
-
Well extended articulated easeful bass whose clean demeanor
without special effects should serve over many years.
-
Very transparent vocal band with proper saturation and
weight.
-
Very clean and non-demonstrative treble which avoids prior
tendencies toward the bright and emphasized.
-
Resolving power at the highest level relative to stage
dimensions as well as to tone colors, dynamics and timing.
This introduces new and gripping detail in familiar
recordings. Because all drivers are purpose-designed as a
team, such detail specificity doesn’t dissect the whole and
instead maintains proper overall flow and integration.
