MY TAKE: The gorgeous design esthetic is matched by their exceptional performance. Combine that with meticulous Danish craftsmanship and you have an audiophile quality speaker that is a treat for the senses. Any of the Davone designs are equally at home in a living room, music room or the museum of modern art. - Galen Carol

    Music with a Twist -

With its open, detailed and involving sound, the Twist is a classic 2-way system in the best sense. The relatively large cabinet gives a linear and well extended bass response. The 4th order Linkwitz-Riley cross-over improves the room response. And the twisted side panels and rock-solid baffle make for an inert driver base. This carefully orchestrated arrangement unleashes the full potential of the high-quality Danish designed drivers. The two versions "Twist Classic" with fixed black grille and the "Twist Select" with customizable baffle without grille are hand-built in Denmark.

    Optimized Room Response -

The sound quality of a loudspeaker is to a large extent determined by how it radiates sound into the 3 dimensions of a room. Special focus has therefore been on the so-called room response of the Twist. We did actually rebuild our listening room to make it sound more neutral for this purpose. Improving the room response led to a low and steep 24dB/Oct Linkwitz-Riley cross-over. The result is a very clear and open upper midrange, without ever becoming aggressive.

"Including room response measurements into development is difficult, because it basically requires the perfect listening room to test the theory. Our room is not perfect, but for the HR cross-over development, we did rebuild our listening room by moving a wall and rearranged the acoustic absorbers. The effort paid off. Improving the room response led to a low and steep cross-over between the drivers, which in turn gives a very clear and open upper midrange, without ever becoming aggressive. To me this is one of the pillars of perfect sound and I am very pleased to introduce this with the Twist." Paul Schenkel. Designer

    Danish Quality Drivers -

Just like you would expect, the Twist uses top of the range drivers that were designed according to the best Danish traditions. The special fiber blend woofer membrane gives exactly the right combination of stiffness and damping. The refined anodized aluminum dome tweeter achieves high levels of detail thanks to its pistonic motion for the entire audible frequency range. The large non-reflective chamber enables a low cross-over frequency for seamless integration of the two drivers.

    The Twist Select -

Breaking with traditions, the Twist Select can easily be customized in production. In today's monochromatic world, the Twist baffle can be dressed with any furniture cloth of your choosing to bring some color back into the world. Our pre-selection is from the Danish Kvadrat Metric series. The two-color thread and texture makes for a unique loudspeaker appearance. The carefully machined loudspeakers and paint matched screws add beautiful detail.

"While working with the Twist prototype without the grille, I often noticed how well the Twist looked with those two drivers exposed. Usually I prefer hiding the drivers because I do not want Davone speakers to look technical, but the Twist was different. I thought, why not use furniture cloth on the baffle? This way we are not limited by the cloth having to be sound transparent, and we open up to the virtually unlimited choices in furniture cloth. You could match your own couch if you like." - Paul Schenkel, Designer

    About Davone -

Of rare quality and refinement, Davone has become synonymous for elegance and simple luxury. Drawn from the best of Danish traditions, Davone currently features 7 unique loudspeaker models, all evolved from the same philosophy. With full production and development based in Denmark, a country renowned for its design and acoustics, Davone has produced loudspeakers since 2007. With their unique combination of sound and design, Davone is a pioneer in high end audio. Davone is the brain-child of MSc Paul Schenkel, an aeronautical engineer with a masters degree in physics, a professional background in acoustics and a deep passion for mid century design and architecture.

"We are continuously working on improving the sound quality, the design and the combination of these two. These famous words from Massimo Vignelli really resonated with me: "the life of a designer is a life of fight: a fight against the ugliness". Sure, a tad dramatic. But still, Davone is my breath of fresh air in the monochromatic square reality of today.” - Paul Schenkel

“Davone loudspeakers are all about sound quality. Many days are spend in the listening room to further refine the sound. "We can not let go until we have fully exhausted a new idea.” - Paul Schenkel

It's as though the enjoyment of quality music replay in the home wasn't a lifestyle but an uncouth hobby best never confessed to. It wouldn't surprise me if Davone's fine cosmetics didn't face similar assumptions. Priced between the best of the mass merchants and the entry-level or aspirational range of the High Street boutiques, Davone's Twist positions itself the same way on sound. It caters to the former's need for bass and higher party potential plus the latter's appreciation for developed tone and richer colours. It's the furniture-grade styling which neither sector should recognize or quite know what to do with. That carves out its very own niche. If you've grown tired of pervasive sameness in box speakers, Davone just may have your number. Let's twist again like we did last summer? Don't tell me you've given up on your dancing shoes! But then there's always Oliver Twist and his "can I have some more?""... - Srajan Ebean - Read the full review here.
