Quadraspire SVT Equipment Stands
MY TAKE: We were initially attracted to Quadraspire for the design esthetic, but quickly became enthusiastic after realizing the performance advantages of these racks. Those traits have made Quadraspire our most popular line of audio furniture. The modular construction concept allows for a wide range of configurations and the ability to accommodate most any combination of components. With ability to add, remove or change spacing, your Quadraspire can easily adapt as your system configuration changes, helping to preserve your investment. – Galen Carol
Stable System Support is Critical -
Every component in an audio system is microphonic (sensitive to vibration). From source to speaker, and all the components in between, each component is sensitive to external vibration. These vibrations produce resonance that will distort the quality of the music reproduced. This distortion can be significantly reduced by siting the HiFi system on a purpose built equipment rack designed to deal with the resonance.
The Quadraspire Design Philosophy -
The design of a HiFi rack and the use of materials in its construction is critical. Quadraspire developed their designs using both empirical methods and the tried and true technique of tuning by ear, in the same way as the finest musical instruments are developed. In particular, they believe a light but rigid construction delivers a clearer, cleaner musical performance.
Materials Choice -
From extensive research and listening they found that the use of non-ferrous metals, such as aluminum and bronze, along with natural materials, wood and bamboo, were the best combination. Indeed, no other equipment stand is using bamboo. Quadraspire’s special bonded, layered construction technique further enhances the materials’ unique advantages.
The Unique Shelf Design -
Look at a Quadraspire design and you immediately note the sculptured shape of the shelves. Though it’s a pleasing esthetic, the shape was chosen for its performance advantages. Similar to the concept of non-parallel walls of a speaker enclosure, the sculptured edges help determine how resonance is treated. In this case, form clearly follows function.
You’ll also notice the slots cut into the shelves for the SVT and X-Reference. These further enhance the ability of the shelf to deal with vibration and resonance and have the added practical benefit of aiding airflow between and around the components.
At each corner of the shelf is a brass tensioner that mechanically couples the shelf and columns and improves the dissipation of energy (resonance).
The Structural Pillars -
In addition to carefully considering the contour of the shelves, it was learned that the shape of the support columns was also a significant contributor to performance. You’ll note that the solid aluminum support columns on the SVT and X-Reference racks are specially shaped in an effort to optimize performance.
Building your own SVT –
The modular concept gives you great flexibility in building your rack. Simply select the number of shelves and the height of the columns for each, starting with one shelf with the 2.5" bottom column and spikes (this will be your bottom shelf). The price for a shelf includes the cost of the columns. Simply determine the number of components you have and the amount of shelf height you want to provide for each (providing adequate separation for ventilation and isolation from RFI or EMI fields).
Column heights:
2.5” – Bottom column and spikes
5.5”
7”
8.5”
10”
12.75”
