Quicksilver Mid Mono Monoblock Tube Amplifiers
Quicksilver Mid Mono Monoblock Tube Amplifiers
MY TAKE: Since 1981 Mike Sanders has been producing well made, dependable, and great-sounding tube electronics. In a word, Quicksilver products epitomize the term value. The company’s designs are simple, reliable, and well-executed. Mr. Sanders believes in the value of point to point wiring, eschewing circuit boards in favor of more robust junctions between component parts. The quality of each and every part of the design is chosen with the intended task in mind and is selected for its sonic contribution to the goal. You won’t see advertisements for Quicksilver products in audio magazines. Mike believes that if you offer a quality product, reputation will spread by word of mouth. This cost savings allows Quicksilver to use top quality parts, and labor-intensive hand construction while keeping their prices low. We think you’ll find Quicksilver designs to offer a unique blend of sonic strengths, excellent reliability, and superb value. - Galen Carol
The Mid Mono Amplifiers -
Quicksilver’s Mid Mono amplifier is completely hand-wired and can use many different output tubes; the Mid Mono has a low loss output transformer, adjustable bias, and five-way gold-plated binding posts. Setting the bias is very simple: two screwdriver controls and pin jacks for any multimeter that reads millivolts. Power is 40 watts at 50% triode operation with the standard EL34s. KT88s or KT120 tubes can be used and the power increases to 45 watts. KT150 tubes can also be used with the output increasing to 50 watts.
This simplicity of the design brings you closer to the music with enough power to drive most speakers. A unique circuit prevents AC potentials between the input and screen grids in the power tubes, providing the reliable operation for which Quicksilver is known. Other features include a high damping factor, low distortion, and a short signal path.
REVIEWS:
"The Quicksilver Mid Mono is a great amp from a great company, and a super value." - Sam Tellig, Stereophile
